Disciplinary Action

It’s always important to remember that dogs needn’t be punished with severe cruelty just so you can make a point. Oftentimes, these kinds of action only trigger in them a sense of fear, or they tend to shy away from your commands because you’ll only get angry at them. This is basically because they don’t understand what you want from them. Keep in mind that they don’t speak English. Sometimes they’re too scared to even try basic commands that they already know but are too afraid that they might not satisfy you so they tend to back away.

Behavior Correction

The best way to correct your dog’s behavior is not through some rough disciplinary action then. Instead, just ignore it. What this actually means is that you only need to ignore your dog whenever they tend to do bad things. Don’t give him/her attention and your pet will certainly miss you. That alone is enough to be a most powerful way of correcting your dog’s behavior. Think about it this way, the more you make it a big deal that the dog’s done something right, the more they’ll understand what to do next time.

Patience

The most common mistake that people make is that they naturally assume that their dogs know what their masters want but opt to disobey willfully. This is so wrong. Most of the time, the reasons why they disobey is that they’ve given their dogs the wrong impressions about certain behaviors simply because their masters are impatient when it comes to training. They tend to reward exaggeratedly for certain acts and aren’t as patient when it comes to other stuff. Patience is the key to training your dog to learn to use his/her own brain. Don’t feel bad that your dog isn’t progressing as well as you had hoped because training takes some time.

Love and Affection

Everyone needs love and affection, and that includes dogs. By acknowledging and reciprocating their love, you are showing that they belong to you, and that you are their only master. By communicating to your dog that you love them most when they do something good, you’re giving them a sense of assurance that they don’t have to be afraid of you and that he/she’ll be eager to find out more which other stuff you like them to do. All dogs love to learn, and they basically love to please their masters. Their way of trying to get attention is a sign that they feel lonely and they want you as company. In this way, you can opt to show them that they’ve been bad simply by not acknowledging their love.

Hiring a Professional Trainer

Training your dog on your own can be stressful both for you and your dog. Sometimes, people recognize in themselves that they don’t have the patience and consistency to successfully educate their dogs on proper behavior. Yelling, screaming and inflicting pain makes training even more difficult as the dogs tend to shy away from you every time they get a sense that you’re getting frustrated already. The best option then is to hire a professional dog trainer. With the proper methods for dog training, you’ll understand easily where you’ve gone wrong. It’s also a good idea that you’re there too while the expert is training your dog so that your pet knows that you’re still the one in charge.

Just remember that all dogs are unique. Like humans, some dogs learn slowly; some dogs learn fast. But take comfort in the fact that regardless of how young or old they are, they can all still learn.
