Obedience Training For Dogs

                                                     Positive Reinforcement

A lot of experts in the field of dog training generally recognize that the process of Positive Reinforcement is much more effective than the outdated way of punishing dogs physically or giving them shock collars and other such painful ways just to enforce discipline.

Positive Reinforcement is just a simple a way of telling your dog that they behaved well and that they get a reward for it every time. The flipside to it is that when they do bad things, you just ignore it and move on to concentrate on maintaining progress.

Communication

Most people mistake the causes as to why dogs are usually disobeying. They think that their dogs aren’t obeying because their pets are resisting. That’s just totally inaccurate. The most common reasons why dogs disobey their owners are because they simply don’t understand what their masters want from them. In short, they don’t understand our speech. The basic thing that they understand though is your body language. The closest thing to verbal communication that they can probably make sense of is the tone of your voice, so communicating what you mean through stresses and tones helps your dog to understand you better.

Disobedience

When a dog is totally disobeying you even though you know that they fully understand what you mean, it’s because of a genuine lack of respect for you. They don’t recognize your authority and that you’ve probably spoiled them so much that they only see you as someone who supplies them with food. This is not a good way to reinforce your status as master. Too much affection, attention, and even letting the dog get away with things such as them digging up your lawn can make your pet think that it’s ok with you. You need to act fast or things will only get worse for you. This is not just some phase that you hope your dog will grow out of. It may become permanent, so you should enforce the idea that you outrank him and that he’ll be unhappy without you.

Establish Dominance

Here’re simple ways to reestablish dominance over your dog.

• Make him sit and wait a moment before receiving his food. This may sound a little too cruel, but you should really instill into your pet that you are the one who controls his basic needs and that he needs to learn his place by being patient.

• When you’re going out for a walk, make sure that you’re the one who goes out first. This is classic dominant leadership status and it sends the message that you’re the one making the decisions. This method is said to be a little outdated so try it out but do not insist too much in it.

• Another common advice says that you should eat first before your dog. Making him eat before your intended suppertime gives off the message that he’s higher in rank. Take this as a pack-roleplay when you make sure that you’re the one who gets to have a bite first before your pet and let him see it.

• Some say you never should let your dog coerce you into doing something such as taking a walk or playing catch outside. Instead, being the one to start things. On the other hand you should not ignore or suppress your dogs creative personality - it always depends on the respective situation. So if you're in doubt only listen to the advice of proven experts that you find recommended on serious websites like this one.

• Always use your best command voice. The trick is to tone down your pitch as low as possible in a way that is most authoritative.

• Be consistent and patient with commands and never yell or scream.
