Scent Marking

When dogs pee in small amounts, they’re basically just marking an area. This is one of the things you’ll encounter during dog housebreaking. It’s not related to stress or excitement. Rather, it’s basically about dominance andThe Ultimat House Training Guide territoriality. Especially when you’ve bought new stuff for your house like sofas, or built new walls, it can get irritating. Read below for a guide on how to prevent this.

• Consider neutering your dog. Dogs that aren’t neutered are basically more territorial than the neutered ones.

• Redefine those areas where your dog likes to pee like feeding him right there on top of the spot or just next to it.

• You can play with them or groom them there.

• Place his bed there.

• Relax there on the spot and let your dog see it’s yours. Read a book or just watch TV from there.

• If there’s more than one dog in the house, figure out which one’s more dominant and let the other dogs see that you’ve chosen that dog as the Top Dog (higher in rank than the others). Feed that dog first before feeding the others and they’ll understand who your right hand is. Scent markings will go away almost immediately.

Paper Training

Paper training can take a lot of time, especially if you don’t have the patience. But, it’s still a most effective way of housebreaking your dog. Your dog going potty on your rug won’t be a problem anymore after you’ve succeeded with this. Although, this form of dog housebreaking is only best if you don’t have a backyard or at least don’t have the capacity or time to let your dog outside. Here are ways to do this:

• Feed him during specific meal times. Do this after you’re done with your meal so you can supervise the dog.

• When the dog starts pooping off the paper, interrupt him with a loud clap or a bang on the wall with your hands. Scoop him up and put him back onto the paper.

• When he accidentally poops anywhere else besides the paper and you didn’t catch it, don’t scold him because dogs forget. They’ll only get confused as to why you’re angry.

• Praise the dog every time he poops on the paper. Give him a treat.

So that concludes this article. But as a parting tip, when you’re house training a dog, it’s important to know that you have to be consistent and patient all the time. Getting angry or screaming and yelling at your pet will only scare your dog and he won’t learn anything at all.
